Carmelle is a Senior Counsel at Walsh LLP who practices in the areas of Civil and Commercial Litigation, Business and Corporate Law, and Employment Law.

Carmelle brings a unique combination of law and business experience to Walsh LLP.

She is known for providing practical legal advice that helps her clients achieve their business goals, and for applying an Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) lens to all aspects of her work. Her passion for people is grounded in significant employment, labour and privacy law experience, and evidenced by her volunteer commitments in the mental health field.

Carmelle’s more than 30 years of legal experience include 25 as in-house legal counsel to large corporations. She was the first General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at a large federally regulated entity, providing all legal services including employment and labour, corporate/commercial, real estate and leasing, financing, and litigation support. Her executive leadership portfolios have included environment and sustainability, enterprise risk management, safety, security and compliance, communications, external affairs and people and culture. Carmelle worked for 20 years with major energy companies in Calgary, leading at various times employment and privacy law, corporate security and investigations, cyber security, corporate contract management, and enterprise and financial risk portfolios. She has also held the role of Chief Audit Executive. 

An avid volunteer, Carmelle is the current Chair of the Board for the Centre for Suicide Prevention, a Board and Governance Committee member with Sport Calgary, and a past Chair of the Board of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Alberta Division.  

When not working or volunteering, Carmelle can be found at the ski hill cheering on her children, accomplished alpine ski racers who are currently competing for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) universities. Carmelle and her family are also motorcycle racing enthusiasts, and have travelled to watch MotoGP races at their favourite venue in Austin, Texas.  Carmelle also enjoys sitting in front of the fire of her mountain home reading the latest in historical fiction.
