In June of 2023, Dustin graduated from the University of Victoria’s Juris Doctor and Juris Indigenarum Doctor law program which is the only legal program of its kind in the world. This includes a focus on Canadian Common Law, as well as Indigenous legal orders. He spent four years learning the complexities of both legal systems in order to develop a proficient legal framework that accounts for the incorporation of Indigenous law into his practice. This includes learning to understand the limits and possibilities of each system individually and on their own and in conjunction with each other. This also includes a year of field school working with Indigenous communities such as the Secwepemc and Kwakwaka’wakw.

Dustin’s focus is Aboriginal, family, environmental, constitutional, and Indigenous law. He believes in being a caring and reliable advocate for the firm and its clients, and to providing creative solutions. His experience includes the development of British Columbia First Nations agreements, including extensive work researching unique agreements such as the Heiltsuk self-governance agreement. He is an alumnus of the University of Victoria’s Environmental Law Clinic and obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Lethbridge in the fall of 2019 with a background in Sociology.

One of Dustin’s deepest passions is the preservation of the environment and continuing to learn about his Blackfoot language and culture. He believes this is important to his work when engaging in relationships with Indigenous communities. Prior to attending law school, he was involved with a biological research team where he was able to spend numerous hours hiking in the mountains with volunteers from around the world. In his free time, Dustin loves to play golf, fish, hike, watch sports and movies, write, share ideas, and spend time with friends and family.
